BLACKWELL, Aldonna Lenore
October 29, 1919 - April 14, 2019
Passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the age of 99. Widowed since 1998 after the death of her loving husband Robin James Blackwell. Beloved mother of Brian Robin Blackwell and his friend Gloria of Vancouver, BC and Gary Craig Blackwell of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, USA. Grandmother to Holly and her family, Josh, Abigail and Beatrice Hergesheimer of Vancouver BC and Heidi and her family Tristan, Piper, Banjo and Percival Nitschke of Meandarra, Australia. Aldonna was a sister to Doris (Wilson Forbes), Glen and Anne, both deceased, and to Fred (deceased (Helen) of Port Elgin ON. Aldonna also had an infant sister Florence (deceased). Predeceased by her parents, Elda Mae and Sylvester Simon Wuerth, from Crediton ON. Predeceased by all of the Blackwell sisters and brothers-in-law. Aunt Aldonna will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and their families. Two of the loves of Aldonna’s life, after her husband and family, were music and sports, especially hockey. She belonged to choirs in Crediton, Listowel, West Monkton and Caledonia. She joined the St. Paul’s Anglican Church Choir in 1960 and was a charter member of the Haldimand Choralairs and sang with them from 1964 to 2011. Aldonna always appreciated the care and kindness that she received from her care givers and her family and church friends, and we wish to express a special thank you to each and every one of them for all of their assistance and the loving care that was shown to our mother. Visitation will take place in the MILLER FUNERAL CHAPEL, Caledonia, on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. followed by a service in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Caledonia, on Thursday, April 18 at 11 a.m. Interment in Caledonia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Paul’s Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family.

I sang in the Choralairs with Aldonna nearly 40 years ago and she never forgot who I was when I would see her more recently. She always seemed to have a smile on her face, even when singing. My late mother, Elsie Doughty, also enjoyed getting to know Aldonna at Canadiana classes held in Caledonia. My sympathy goes out to her family.

Brian and Gary,
Sending you thoughts and prayers in the loss of your mother. Aldonna was a lovely lady, always with a smile and kind word.
Thinking of both of you and your family at this time.

I was truly saddened to hear of Aldonna's passing. I consider it quite an honour that I was able to sing with Aldonna in the Haldimand Choralairs. It was always a goodnight, especially when Aldonna could speak her mind with such positive reinforcement. My heart will always hold a special place for this amazing woman. Sleep peacefully Aldonna, and may the music always continue on. Xo

Aldonna was a great sister-in-law and friend for over 60 years. Although she was very feeble when we visited her about a week ago we talked and laughed about some of trips we had taken together-------Florida Ireland Germany and Branson where she saw her idols Bobby Vinton and Lawrence Welk I will miss her

Such sad news as Aldonna was a special first cousin of all of our cousins who descended from Gottfried and Veronica Wein of Crediton, Ontario. She was exactly 21 years older than me and she assisted my mother on our farm when I was born. I remember the Sunday visits with our Wein grandparents. I remember her singing voice as a soloist and in duets with other cousins. I remember the reunions. Aldonna will be sadly missed. My family and I send our best wishes to her family. We are thinking of you.
